WASHINGTON – Today, ITI, the global voice of the tech sector, issued the following statement from Jason Oxman, ITI President and CEO, in response to President Trump’s announcement that he will impose a 5 percent tariff on goods from Mexico:

“Tariffs are not an appropriate tool to address serious immigration challenges. Furthermore, their use in this context undermine the high-standard, market-opening trade rules that allow the United States to compete globally and lead in innovation, and if enacted, would threaten economic growth. The most effective way to address these concerns is for the administration and Congress to pass a permanent solution to fix the United States’ broken and outdated immigration system. We urge the Trump administration to embrace a collaborative approach and focus on finding real, workable solutions to this important issue.”
