WASHINGTON – ITI, the global voice for the tech sector, released the following statement from president and CEO Dean Garfield urging Congress to redouble its efforts to find a permanent, legislative solution to the Deferred Action Childhood Arrival (DACA) program, following its failure to move forward on the latest proposal:

“We are disappointed that the Senate missed a golden opportunity to provide certainty for millions of men and women who are American in every way except on paper. The tech industry calls on Congress to end this debate once and for all and come together to find a permanent, viable solution that establishes the legal status for Dreamers. We stand ready and willing to support these efforts.”

Dreamers contribute significantly to the U.S. economy: more than 97 percent of DACA recipients are in school or in the workforce, at least 72 percent of the top 25 Fortune 500 companies count DACA recipients among their employees, 5 percent started their own business, 65 percent have purchased a vehicle, and 16 percent have purchased their first home.
