Dear Speaker Pelosi, Leader McConnell, Leader McCarthy, and Leader Schumer,

In recent weeks, the United States and the world have witnessed the injustices born of systemic racism and persistent discrimination against Black Americans. These are not new challenges, but we hope that out of these tragedies, the United States can seize upon a renewed commitment to address racial injustice.

At ITI, and on behalf of the technology industry, we are committed to doing our part. To us this means both an honest assessment of how we can improve in our own businesses and communities, while working with policymakers to advance real solutions. Our industry makes tools that can be helpful in addressing systemic racism if they are built and deployed in a way that both realizes their benefits and minimizes potential harms.

To that end, we are encouraged by the growing consensus in favor of policing reform and thank you for your leadership in bringing forth legislation to tackle these complex issues. We urge Congress to continue to move forward and reach bipartisan agreement on comprehensive legislation that can be enacted by the administration in the coming weeks.

We recognize that this is the beginning of much needed work to rectify the racial injustices that have endured for centuries. The technology industry is eager to participate in this ongoing dialogue and contribute to action that brings about meaningful change.

Sincerely,

Jason Oxman

CEO and President, ITI
