WASHINGTON – Today, ITI issued the following statement from President and CEO Jason Oxman in response to the forthcoming introduction of the COVID-19 Consumer Data Protection Act in the U.S. Senate:

“The technology industry enables communities and individuals to respond to the widespread impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. We work closely with public and private partners to provide critical products and services to save lives; enable research of the virus itself and the development of treatments and vaccines through supercomputing and other technologies; and facilitate remote work and distance learning. Data and technology tools can help address this crisis, but the sensitive data necessary to achieve this goal must be adequately protected and limited. ITI and our member companies respect our users’ privacy, and in order to ensure trust, we remain committed to working with policymakers – in the U.S. and elsewhere – to develop strong, comprehensive privacy protections.”
